quiz makeup

Missed quizzes can be made up by doing a reading response-type assignment on a recent news story. These should be turned in as soon after you realize you missed a quiz as possible. The response should be 6-10 sentences in 1 or 2 paragraphs; a single page in length. Choose a story related to health or social insurance from one of the following:

Health Affairs Blog,
News@JAMA,
Kaiser Health News

Your response should basically follow the following format: One or two sentences explaining the most important facts in the story. Describe who is affected by the story (insurance companies, politicians, consumers, etc) – give some examples (so name some insurance companies, if that is the affected group). Then there should be two or three sentences describing the method of the journalism. If the story refers to a research project, who has done the research project? If there is an expert interview, who is the expert and why are they considered an expert? Finally, there should be one to three sentences describing what the future might hold related to this story. This could mean what the events will lead to or what likely future events will have an important bearing on this story. This can be shorter than a regular homework assignment – about half a page or 500 words is plenty.
